Prayers

PRAYER FOR UKRAINE
Loving God,
We pray for the people of Ukraine,
for all those suffering or afraid,
that you will be close to them and protect them.
We pray for world leaders,
for compassion, strength and wisdom to guide their
choices.
We pray for the world
that in this moment of crisis,
we may reach out in solidarity
to our brothers and sisters in need.
May we walk in your ways
so that peace and justice
become a reality for the people of Ukraine
and for all the world.
Amen.

THE GLORIA

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will.

We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory, Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father.

Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us; you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer; you are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us.

For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

THE NICENE CREED

I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages.

God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.

I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

We fly to your protection, O holy Mother of God. Despise not our petitions in our
necessities, and deliver us from all dangers. O glorious and blessed Virgin. Amen.

Virgin Mary, turn your merciful eyes towards us amid this coronavirus pandemic. Comfort those who are distraught and mourn their loved ones who have died, and at times are buried in a way that grieves them deeply. Be close to those who are concerned for their loved ones who are sick and who, in order to prevent the spread of the disease, cannot be close to them. Fill with the hope those who are troubled by the uncertainty of the future and the consequences for the economy and employment. Amen.

DIOCESAN NOVENA TO BLESSED DOMINIC BARBERI

Starts on August 18th and concludes on August 26th, his feast day.
(Repeat the following Novena prayers every day for 9 consecutive days.)
O God, who so lovingly raised Blessed Dominic
to the heights of holiness, learning, and apostolic zeal
and made him a powerful minister of your mercy,
listen to our humble request.
We pray that you will in your goodness,
grant a miracle through the intercession of Blessed Dominic,
so that the Church may further honour him on earth
and that many more people will come to know
and invoke the help of this faithful servant of the Church.

We ask this through Christ Our Lord. Amen.
Mary, Mother of Mercy, Pray for us.
Blessed Dominic Barberi, Pray for us.

Saint John Henry Newman, Pray for us.

A prayer for our earth
All-powerful God,
you are present in the universe
and in the smallest of your creatures.

You embrace with your tenderness all that exists.
Pour out upon us the power of your love,
that we may protect life and beauty.
Fill us with your peace, that we may live
as brothers and sisters, harming no one.

O God of the poor,
help us to rescue the abandoned
and forgotten of this earth,
so precious in your eyes.
Bring healing to our lives,
that we may protect the world and not prey on it,
that we may sow beauty,
not pollution and destruction.
Touch the hearts
of those who look only for gain
at the expense of the poor and the earth.
Teach us to discover the worth of each thing,
to be filled with awe and contemplation,

to recognize that we are profoundly united
with every creature
as we journey towards your infinite light.
We thank you for being with us each day.
Encourage us, we pray, in our struggle,
for justice, love and peace.
A prayer for our earth was published in Pope Francis’ encyclical, Laudato Si’. It is for
all who believe in God who is the all-powerful Creator.

PRAYER FOR THE FIRST WORLD DAY FOR GRANDPARENTS AND THE ELDERLY

I thank You, Lord, for the comfort of Your presence: even in times of loneliness,
You are my hope and my confidence, You have been my rock and my fortress since my youth! I thank You for having given me a family and for having blessed me with a long life. I thank You for moments of joy and difficulty, for the dreams that have already come true in my life, and for those that are still ahead of me.

I thank You for this time of renewed fruitfulness to which You call me.
Increase, O Lord, my faith, make me a channel of your peace, teach me to embrace those who suffer more than me, to never stop dreaming, and to tell of your wonders to new generations.

PRAYER FOR THE DIOCESAN VISION (abbreviated and altered)

Spirit of God,

Descend on us this day.

Grant us the Spirit of joy, to lift us,

The Spirit of hope to inspire us,

The Spirit of love to surround us and the

Spirit of truth to enlighten our path.

Holy Spirit

We pray for a new outpouring of your grace,

So that we may grow in worship of your name

In love of you in our prayer

And in our actions towards others.  Amen.

ST TERESA OF AVILA

As you are alone, seek for some companion – and where could you find a better one than the Master who taught you the prayer you are about to say? Picture this same Lord close beside you. See how lovingly, how humbly he is teaching you- believe me, you should never be without so good a friend. If you accustom yourselves to keep him near you, and he sees that you love to have him, and make every effort to please him, you will not be able to send him away. He will never fail you, but will help you in all your troubles, and you will find him everywhere. Do you think it is a small thing to have such a friend at your side?

Pope Francis Prayer to St Joseph

Hail, Guardian of the Redeemer,
Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
To you God entrusted his only Son;
in you Mary placed her trust;
with you Christ became man.
Blessed Joseph, to us too,
show yourself a father
and guide us in the path of life.
Obtain for us grace, mercy and courage,
and defend us from every evil. Amen.

PAX CHRISTI PRAYER
GOD OF LOVE show us our place in this world as channels of your love for all the creatures of this earth, for not one of them is forgotten in your sight.
Enlighten those who possess power and money, that they may love the common good, advance the weak, and care for the world in which we live. The poor and the earth are crying out.
O LORD, seize us with your power and light, help us to protect all life, to prepare for a better future, for the coming of your Kingdom of justice, peace, love and beauty.

PRAISE BE TO YOU! AMEN.
Pope Francis, adapted from Laudato Si.

A Christmas Prayer for Christians of the Holy Land

Lord Jesus we pray

for our brothers and sisters

in the land you made holy.

Strengthen us with tehm

To be lights in the world,

And witnesses to your grace.

Like the shepherds long ago,

May we proclaim in our lives

All that we have seen and heard,

For your love’s sake.

CHRISTMAS PRAYER

O God, our loving Father, help us

Rightly to remember the birth of Jesus

born in Bethlehem,

That I share in the song of the Angels,

the gladness of the shepherds

and the worship of the wise men.

Close the door of hate and open the

Door of love all over the world.

Deliver us from evil by the blessing

that Christ brings, and teach us

to be merry with the clear hearts.

May the Christmas morning makes us happy

To be Thy children and the Christmas Evening

Bring us to our beds with

Grateful thoughts, forgiving and

Forgiven, for Jesus’ s sake.

(R.L.Stevenson)
